Do I Need a Professional designer?

Why You Really DO Need a Graphic Designer

Do you really NEED a Graphic Designer for you business or personal projects? Yes, a thousand times over!

First, even though you might have a great sense of “design” and artistic ability, chances are, unless you have a designing background in printing, that you don’t have the necessary programs to actually do the “designing”.

What are the “right” programs? Usually InDesign, Quark, Pagemaker, Illustrator, PowerPoint and Photoshop are the programs most used in the “industry” of Graphic Design. Because these programs usually run in the hundreds of dollars per program, most small businesses or individuals do not have the ability to use them, or the access to them.

Even if you have access to the programs, would you really know how to use them correctly and to their highest abilities without training? Doubtful. I have an A.A. and an A.S. in Graphic Communications, including Marketing, and even I have only touched the surface of each of these programs! They are amazing, but you really do need training in the field to utilize them to the fullest.

Another reason you should use an actual Graphic Designer, is that by doing so you free up time you can donate to other aspects of your business….namely making money.

Speaking of money, by using an actual designer, you really do save not only headaches, but time and most of all, MONEY. For instance, let’s say you have to do a presentation for your business…either in PowerPoint or Word. Do you know how to make the presentation look interesting enough to hold the interest of you potential customers or your employees? If not, it is a waste of effort and money you could have made during the time it took to prepare the presentation. By using an actual designer, who has access to many graphics, as well as knowledge in the marketing side of things, you save money. Now, let’s say you are preparing a flyer, or need a brochure, or business card and you decide to “do it yourself”. Well, unless you need only a couple items, or you are prepared to print the hundreds of flyers or brochures for distribution from you own home printer, it is not a good step to use that “little greeting-card program” you just bought.

First, most professional printers have no access to the programs you used, and have no way to read the files you bring in, let’s say, on a C.D. Using “Word” is also a mistake if you need actual printing done by professionals, as most printers use the programs mentioned above, which have trouble reading word, thereby wasting much time and effort and money on your part by having to have the printer’s designers re-do your items for printing.

Another reason for using graphic designers is that they have the training to not only use the aforementioned programs, but to use them to the fullest…to take YOUR ideas and make them into a both visual and well worded work of art. They have the know-how to place the graphics at just the right angle, to get rid or change the stroke around that box of the graphic you placed into the article, to choose the correct CMYK colors and many other ways of creating a professional piece which can be printed by any professional. They also know how to make a PDF which you can use at your business to print such pieces off in the future, thus saving time later on when that certain piece is needed again.

So yes, you really do NEED a true Graphic Designer, both for your small business or for any personal jobs such as flyers for your church or club doings.
